Maybe it's a knee that grumbles on your long run. A shoulder that aches after tennis or pickleball. A low back that gets stiff after golfing, gardening or a long stretch at your desk. It's not stopping you, so you work around it, stretch a little, and tell yourself it's not a big deal.

If you've ever wondered whether a minor ache is really worth a physical therapist's time, it is. Nagging aches and pains are often the earliest sign that something about how you move, load, or recover needs attention, and that's the best time to address it.

Or maybe an old injury has you hesitant to start strength training or a new exercise routine.

Either way, a proactive approach to physical therapy helps you move better, hurt less, and feel confident getting started and staying in the game, whether that’s running, tennis, golf, pickleball, gardening, or simply getting down on the floor to play with your kids or grandkids.

Hi! I'm Emily Pringle, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Precision Nutrition coach in Kansas City with 17+ years of experience. I help active adults get out of pain, improve performance with daily tasks and exercise, and build functional strength that lasts.

Why "Minor" Pain Is Worth Addressing

Nagging pain rarely comes out of nowhere. Over time, small gaps in strength, mobility, or movement habits add up, and your body finds ways to compensate. That works for a while, until it doesn't.

A physical therapist is the go-to for assessing movement patterns & pain, and a good PT can help determine what's causing pain, whether you can keep training through it, whether imaging is needed, and when you might need to consult with another specialist. And in many cases, the answer is reassuring: you can keep doing what you love, just with a smarter plan.

The same is true if an old injury has kept you from even starting strength training or a new exercise routine. A previous injury doesn't mean you can't build strength. It usually means you need the right starting point and a gradual progression, so you can rebuild strength and confidence and move forward without the fear of flaring things up.

The goal isn't just to make the pain go away. It's to build a body that's resilient enough to keep doing the activities you love, now and for decades to come.

So You've Already Done PT... But Have You Really?

Many people tell me they’ve “already tried PT" once and it didn't help, or that they felt like a number on a schedule. If that's you, I want you to know it doesn't mean PT can't work for you. It often means the experience wasn't built around you & your specific needs & goals.

Not All Physical Therapy Looks the Same

Many PTs focus on helping you recover from a major injury or surgery, and that's important work. But not every PT acts as both a rehab provider AND a movement or strength coach, and it often depends on the clinic model. Insurance-based and cash-pay clinics, for example, can differ in session length, visit structure, and how much time there is to go beyond initial pain-relief goals. That's why it's worth knowing what to look for.

“Emily is able to quickly get to the root problem of my pain and recommend stretches and strengthening exercises that really help. I know now...exactly what to do so I can continue to live a healthy, active life.” ~ Jennifer K.

PT + Movement Coach: Bridging the Gap From Rehab to Strength and Performance

Here's what physical therapy looks like with me:

  • You're heard. I take the time to listen, learn your history, and understand what you want to get back to. Maybe that's running a marathon, returning to tennis or golf, or getting down on the floor to play with your kids or grandkids. Your plan is built around your goals, not a generic template.

  • You get hands-on care and early relief. Depending on what's going on, that may include manual therapy, modalities like dry needling or cupping, and initial pain-relief exercises to calm things down.

  • You don't stay on the table. Relief is the starting point. Then I progress you to foundational, functional strength exercises so the pain doesn't keep coming back.

  • We keep going past "pain-free." As your movement coach, I can help you improve performance with exercise and recreational activities like running, golf, tennis, pickleball, swimming & cycling.

  • Your whole life is part of the picture. I adjust sessions based on factors like your sleep quality and stress levels, and we talk about how nutrition affects tissue repair, midlife joint pain, and building muscle.

  • You learn when to push and when less is more. More exercise isn't always better, and knowing the difference can be the key to getting unstuck.

  • We look at your daily habits. Posture during work tasks or while watching TV in the evening, breathing patterns, and your total daily movement can all factor into pain relief, and they're often overlooked.

Why a Direct Cash-Pay Model Lets Me Do This Well

Cash-pay physical therapy puts your care back in your hands:

  • One-on-one sessions: Quality care for a full hour, with me every time.

  • No surprise bills: You know the total cost upfront.

  • No insurance delays: No waiting on prior authorizations that disrupt your treatment flow.

  • A plan built around YOU: Your care is shaped by your goals and what your body needs on any given day, not by what a payer requires or how many visits are approved.

  • Discounted visit packages: Save on sessions while building consistent progress towards lasting relief.

  • 30-minute recovery sessions: For established clients who just need a quick tune-up with manual therapy, dry needling, or cupping.

This approach also gives us room to include what drives lasting results: strength and performance progressions, plus personalized nutrition and daily habit guidance, all in one place.

**HSA and FSA cards are accepted for all sessions.

Questions to Ask Any PT Before You Book

Whether you work with me or someone else, these questions can help you find the right fit:

  1. How long are sessions, and will I work 1:1 with the therapist for the whole session?

  2. Will I work with the same therapist each session?

  3. Will you ask about my specific goals and the activities I want to return to?

  4. What does treatment involve? Hands-on work, exercise, or both?

  5. How do you progress patients from pain relief to strengthening?

  6. Can you help me return to (or improve performance with) my sport or activity, or will I need to see someone else for that?

  7. Do you consider factors like sleep, stress, nutrition, and daily habits?

  8. Will I leave with a plan I can follow on my own?
